About Me

Hello! My name is Sophie, and welcome to my little corner of the web, Local is Lovely.

I am a freelance food writer based on our farm just west of Orange, NSW. And I live here with my husband Tim and two children Alice (7) and Tom (5). I write recipes, feature articles, cook lots at our Farm Kitchen, co-host events that seek to find and celebrate beauty in the every day and try to blog as much as possible!

With a background in print journalism, I only recently began taking photographs and now can't stop!

Before moving to Orange I worked in food and lifestyle magazines as a features editor then editor.  From 2001-2003 I lived in north-west Italy, working for the Slow Food movement's editorial house (yes - a dream job). And for the past nine years have lived here in Orange.

Last year I was appointed as NSW Writer in Residence, (read more about this on my One Farm Day blog) and I also contribute regularly to a range of magazines, blogs and websites including Village Voices, Justb and Country Style magazine.

On our farm we grow deer and then sell our venison at farmers markets. Our business is called Mandagery Creek Venison and in addition to the markets we also supply some of Australia's top restaurants.

I started this blog as a collection of recipes and resources for people who love farmers and eating locally. Because it's lovely.
